Medal of Honor
The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest military award in the United States. First awarded in the Civil War by the President of the United States to a recipient whose voluntary action was above and beyond the call of duty and at the risk of one's own life. Of the tens of millions of men and women who have served the United States in times of need since Civil War, only 3,430 have received the Medal of Honor. Total Medals of Honor awarded: 3,449. Total number of double recipients: 19.
To the best of my knowledge there are 176 living Medal of Honor recipients.
